History of the department

The Department of Pediatric Surgery was opened in 1957. The first head of the department at the clinical base in 50 beds is Candidate of Medical Sciences Associate Professor E.D. Cherkasova. In the beginning, the department was located on the basis of the city clinical hospital number 1, since 2015 the department is located at the bases: University Clinic “Aksay”, Almaty Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital and the Scientific Center of Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery.

From the very first days of the department’s existence, a student group began its work in order to train highly qualified personnel and develop pediatric surgery. One of the active members of this circle was the student of the pediatric faculty Kamal Ormantayev. In the years 1958-59. he successfully made the report “The reaction of lead poisoned dog to bloodletting” (1958), “On the questions of congenital clubfoot” (1959), at the All-Union conferences of scientific student circles held in Nizhny Novgorod and Saratov, where he meets the founders of the USSR children’s school, with the famous scientist, professor S.D. Ternovsky.

In 1968 for a well-deserved rest. Cherkasova. From this year to 2011. the head of the department is academician K.S. Ormantayev. From 2012 to the present time the head of the department is Professor Ormantaev AK.

Under the leadership of Academician Ormantayev KS, with the participation of the leading staff of the department 16 doctoral and more than 120 candidate dissertations are defended.

Today the staff of the department is represented by highly qualified specialists: Acad. NAS RK, Honored Worker of Science, MD academician K.S. Ormantayev, professor. Ormantaev A.K., professor E.A. Oynarbaeva, Professor K.T. Tursunov, Professor A.O. Momynkulov, Professor A.D.Sepbaeva, Professor Khvan Yu.M., Associate Professor G.T. Sultankulova, associate professor Zh.M.Turlekiyeva, D.U. assistant professor Smagulova, assistant I. N. Kerey, assistant A.A. Musaev.

Employees of the department published more than 1000 scientific works, including 9 chapters in the union manuals on pediatric surgery and 14 monographs.

The desk scientific works of the child surgeon, from which the recommendations for each day are drawn, are books written by KS. Ormantaev and in co-authorship with other scientists: “Brain concussion in children”, “Two-sided chronic purulent lung diseases in children”, “Urolithiasis in children”, “Children’s traumatology”, “Intraosseous washing with osteomyelitis in children,” “Severe craniocerebral trauma in children “,” Ecology zhene anan men bala densaulyy “.

Now the late professor Kozhakhanov KK wrote monographs in the Kazakh language: “Surgical purulent diseases in children” (Almaty, 1992) and “Diagnosis and treatment of acute surgical diseases in children” (Almaty, 1995).

Prof. Yeshmukhambetuly S. published monographs “Chronic cystitis in children” (Almaty, 1983), “Care for surgical sick children” (Almaty, 1993), “Children’s urology” (Almaty, 1993) and the chapter “Cystitis in children” in the manual “Children’s urology” (Moscow, 1986).

Employees of the department developed and implemented a number of fundamentally new methods of surgical interventions in severe injuries and peritonitis of various etiologies, chemical burns of the esophagus and congenital malformations, the priority of which is confirmed by more than 90 inventions and patents.

In 1999, for his great contribution to scientific developments in the field of pediatric surgery, Academician K. Ormantaev, Professor Kozhakhanov K.K., Professor Jumabekov TA, Associate Professor Erekeshov A.E., Doctor of Medicine. Karabekov A.K. was awarded the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of science.

A good tradition of the annual participation of members of the scientific student circle of the Department of Pediatric Surgery has not faded to this day. Such cities as Moscow, Leningrad, Minsk, Riga, Tallinn, Chisinau, Kiev, Tashkent, Tbilisi, Almaty, Baku, Bishkek remember the brilliant scientific reports of our circles. Activity, high level of research work, a large number of publications allow the SNK of the Department of Pediatric Surgery of the ASMI to be constantly among the leaders both in the Soviet Union and in the CIS, which is confirmed by diplomas of laureates of I and II degrees. The influx of young cadres allows the department to look with optimism at the future prospects of pediatric surgery in Kazakhstan.
