History of the Department

The department of propaedeutic of internal diseases was organized in the Kazakh State Medical Institute in 1933. The department of propaedeutic of internal diseases was based in the internal disease department of Almaty municipal hospital, there were two assistants, one resident and one graduate student.

Among the chairs of the department there were Associate Professor Vulpe I.N. (1933-1944); Associate Professor Barlybaev H.A. (1944-1948 ff.); professor Brener M.A. (1948-1964); Associate Professor Kuchin N.N. (1964-1986); professor Aitbembet BN (1986-1995, 1999-2001); Associate Professor Yermuhambetov T.K. (1995-1999).
In 2003 the professor Aitbembet published a textbook ‘The clinical examination’ in the Kazakh language.

From 2001 till 2016, professor Esenzhanova, MD headed the department. Professor Esenzhanova G.M. graduated from the Karaganda State Medical Institute, in 1983 she defended her Ph.D., and in 1997 she completed her doctoral dissertation. Since 1985 she worked at the Department of Hospital Therapy of Almaty State Medical  Institute as an assistant, assistant professor, professor of the department.

Professor Gulshat Esenjanova was the scientific chief of the Ph D. dissertation of assistant professor Iszhanova A.

From 2016 to 2017, the department was headed by Associate Professor Alikhan Zhankin, who began his career as an assistant at the department since 1991.

Since September 2017 the department of propaedeutic of the internal diseases is headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, master de sante publique, MD Bayan Nurgalieva. Bayan Nurgalieva graduated with honors from the Almaty State Medical Institute. In clinical residency she studied at the Department of Hospital Therapy, in 1997 she defended her Ph.D. thesis on internal diseases. In 2005, she defended her doctoral dissertation in Burdenko Hospital (Moscow, Russian Federation). In 2006, she completed an internship in public health management at Virginia University (USA). In 2009 she graduated with a master’s degree (Master de sante publique) from the University of Lyons (France). She also graduated from the evening department of the Almaty Institute of Language and Translation, studying English and French, and the economics department of the International Business Academy. Nurgalieva B.K. has a large clinical experience, worked as a clinical resident, assistant at the Medical University, chief physician in the polyclinic, the chief specialist in the Ministry of Health, she worked in international medical organizations and projects.

Currently, the staff of the department of propaedeutic are based on the emergency aid hospital, in the State Clinical Hospital No. 4 and on the private Medical clinic “HAK”, where there are the polyclinic, hospital and diagnostic department with CT and MRI, laboratory, department of patronage of pregnant women and children.

The staff of the department consists of 15 employees, among them there are clinicians, qualified specialists, doctors with academic degrees.
