History of the department

The Department of Otorhinolaryngology at the Kazakh Medical Institute was opened in 1936 under the guidance of Vladimir Georgievich Ermolaev, a born organizer, scientist, and representative of the Leningrad School of Otorhinolaryngology. Over the years of work in Kazakhstan, in addition to managing the department of ENT diseases, several positions were combined: the chief physician of the Sovnarkom hospital, the chief doctor of the clinical hospital No.1, the deputy director of KazMI and the deputy of the People’s Commissar of Health of KazSSR. He was a member of the district committee, the regional committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan. He successfully worked as an editor in the journal “Public Health of Kazakhstan”. The Party and the Government of Kazakhstan awarded him the title of Honored Worker of Science of the Kazakh SSR for his labor achievements. In 1936, for the good organization of work on the development of public health services, the republic was awarded with the badge “15 years of KazSSR” and received gratitude from the People’s Commissariat of Health of the Kazakh SSR. He was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1940) and the Order of the Red Star (1942).

Since 1939 after the departure of Ermolaev V.G. in Leningrad, the head of the department becomes candidate of medical sciences, and since 1947, Doctor of Medical Sciences Boris Vladimirovich Elantsev, representative of the Tomsk school of otorhinolaryngology, is a bright, prominent, highly successful scientist, organizer, who created the Kazakhstan school of otorhinolaryngology: 7 doctors of medical sciences, 37 candidates of medical sciences. Elantsev BV published a monograph on surgical diseases of the ENT organs, which is still the reference book of the practical doctor-otorhinolaryngologist. Professor Elantsev BV was an erudite clinician, an experienced surgeon and a qualified teacher.

 

From 1973 to 2002 the chair was headed by Professor Taibogarov Sagintai Esengalievich. Order of the Ministry of Health of the Kazakh SSR, he was approved by the chief specialist on diseases of the ear, throat and nose. In 1974, at the Republican Conference on Otorhinolaryngology, he was elected chairman of the “Otorhinolaryngological Society.”

SE Teibogarov held five republican conferences on otorhinolaryngology, in 1983 – the first congress of ENT specialists.

Under his scientific leadership defended one doctoral and eight candidate dissertations. As a result of fruitful scientific and pedagogical activity, he trained more than 1000 doctors-otorhinolaryngologists. He is the author of 11 monographs and 230 scientific articles on otorhinolaryngology.

From 2002 to 2014 course of otorhinolaryngology, and then, since 2005, the department was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor Zhaysakova D.E.

Zhaysakova D.E. she was the Chairman of the Almaty Society of Otorhinolaryngologists, a member of the Dissertation Council OD 09.06.01 State Medical University “Astana”, a member of the editorial board of the journal “Otorhinolaryngology,  Head. Neck Surgery “, a member of the Hospital Board of Municipal Clinical  Hospital No. 5, a member of the Academic Council, the CMS and the Scientific and Problem Commission of KazNMU, a member of KILI.  Under her leadership, protected 3 doctoral, 10 Ph.D. theses.

The author of more than 250 publications. Of these, 2 monographs: “Differential diagnosis of otorhinolaryngological diseases in children”, and the monograph “Diseases of pharings” was published in 2009 in Kazakh, 2 – teaching aids, 6 innovative patents for invention, 12 methodological guidelines for independent studies on ENT pathology.

2008 – Awarded the Al-Farabi medal for his contribution to science, for his great achievements in the field of health science.

2015 – a badge of the National Medical Association of the Republic of Kazakhstan “Altyn dariger” for the great contribution to the development of public health and selfless work.

2016 – Gold Medal of the KazNMU named after SD Asfendiyarov.

2017 – breastplate badge “Excellent worker of public health services” for special merits in the matter of protecting the health of the population of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
