The department has rich scientific traditions laid down by the founders of the department.
The Department of Pharmacology conducts active research work in the following areas:
• Search for new highly effective and low-toxic membrane stabilizing substances among newly synthesized compounds
• Study of the pharmacological activity and safety of new dosage forms from domestic plant raw materials
• Issues of rational use of drugs in outpatient and clinical practice in the Republic of Kazakhstan:
1) Clinical-pharmacological and pharmacoeconomic assessment of the use of drugs by patients with age-associated diseases
2) Pharmacoepidemiology, problems of polypharmacy

The main direction of the department is the study of the local anesthetic properties of new compounds. In 2004, Professor G. Pichkhadze was awarded the State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of science, technology and education for the creation of a new low-toxic, highly active anesthetic and antiarrhythmic “Kazkain”. The patent for his invention was recognized as the winner of the Republican competition in the nomination “Invention of the Year”. Professor G. Pichkhadze was awarded the honorary title “GIBEX Fellow” by the World Institute of Bioprospecting.
In recent years, the staff of the department have defended 4 candidate and 3 master’s dissertations on the main topic. In 2020, 3 employees of the department entered the PhD program. More than 20 patents and prepatents have been obtained, as well as 12 innovative patents.

The staff of the department prepared:
• Educational-methodical complexes for students;
• Visual demonstration material;
• Electronic textbooks on some topics, some of them in Kazakh and English;
• Testing tools of knowledge: tasks in the test form MCQ for the current, intermediate and final control.
• Under the general editorship of G.M. Pichkhadze, translation of the textbook by D.А. Kharkevich “Pharmacology” intotheKazakhlanguage.
• “Guide to practical exercises in pharmacology: collection of tasks” and “Study guide – textbook” for medical colleges in Kazakh and Russian languages were published.

Introduced innovative teaching methods:
• Reading problem lectures;
• Practical exercises in the form of business games, disputes, using the TBL and CBL methods;
• When conducting practical exercises, the discussion of the topic is carried out on the basis of solving situational tasks that have a clinical focus, which allows students to practice the skills of choosing drugs in a specific clinical situation.
• Compiled multimedia programs;
• Quantized texts with tasks in test form in 2 languages (Russian and English);
• The computer class is functioning.
• It is planned to conduct classes with the use of the “Virtual Pharmacological Laboratory”, which will help to increase the practical orientation of the classes and develop students’ research skills
• The staff of the department has issued a significant number of guidelines, teaching aids and recommendations for students and doctors in Kazakh and Russian, English;
• The staff of the department is actively involved in the preparation of video lectures on pharmacology
• Own and borrowed proposals have been introduced into the educational process and health care practice.
• The teaching staff of the department constantly improve their qualifications at trainings, seminars, cycles and courses of study at various levels, where they not only master modern approaches to teaching, but also pay great attention to obtaining new knowledge.
• In order to exchange experience in the field of educational activities, the staff of the department take an active part in the implementation of the academic mobility program. In particular, relations have been established with Semey Medical University, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Bukhara State Medical Institute
• This year, the staff of the department is actively involved in the development of a new educational program for students of the school “General Medicine”
