History of the Department

The general surgery department was organized as a part of Almaty state medical institute in 1934 year.

The first chair of the department was professor A.N. Syzganov.

Since 1934 till 1963 year the head of the department was Syzganov  Alexander Nikolaevich.

Since 1963 till 1971 year the head of the head was professor Chuvakov Kozhahmet  Chuvakovich.

Since 1971till 1981 year general surgery department was headed by Chuvakov but professor Dairov Almagambet Bekishevich was pediatric faculty’s chairman.

In 1981 these two departments were united.

Since 1981 till 1985 year the department was headed by Dairov Almagambet Bekishevich.

Since 1985till 1988 the head of the department was professor Golovachev Valentin Lukich.

Since 1988 till 2009 the head of the department was professor Durmanov Kalybai Durmanovich.

Since 2009 till 2011 senior professor Kapanova Gulnar Janbaevna was interim of the head of the department.

Since September 2011 till April 2012 Kyzhyrov Janbai Naitalhanovich was head of the department.

Since 2012 the anesthesiology and reanimathology courses were divided from the general surgery chair. The great Kazakhstani scientists had worked on the general surgery department in different years. They are Suleimenov Argyn Argynoich who became then Oncology institute’s director, Idrisov Akram Salimovich who became the Oncology department’s chair in Almaty doctor’s qualification increasing state university.

In addition, Kasenov Toleutai Sarmantaevich who became the professor of general surgery department; Ospanov Abdrali Ospanovich who became the chair of the Hospital surgery department of KazNMU, Baimukuamedov Jenis Batyrovich  who became the professor of surgery chair of SK SMU.

Since May 2012 medical science doctor, professor Mukanov Marat Umirbekovich became the head of the department.

Due to the reorganization of the departments in September 2017 departments of the general surgery and surgery No. 2 of the department chair were joined professor Mukanov Marat Umerbekovich is.
