The Department of Skin and Sexually Transmitted Diseases was established in 1934. For 83 years of its activity the department has become a school for the training of highly qualified specialists-dermatovenerologists.
The history of the department is in many ways people who at different times were part of it. Therefore, this page begins with the listing of people who led (and guiding) our department. And only one listing of these names evokes a feeling of admiration and pride in the pulpit, a sense of ownership with the whole story. The founder of the department is Professor M.S. Bragin, who headed it from 1934 to 1948. Subsequently, the department was in charge of large scientists who are the pride of medical science. These are professors: S.A. Poplavsky (1948-1960), K.A. Kalantaevskaya (1960-1961), W.B. Berdybaev (1961-1971), R.K. Makasheva (1971-1985), Yu.I. Lonshakov (1985-1991), Z.B. Esengaraeva (1991-1993), M.T. Shakirov (1993 – 2002). From 2002 to the present time – prof., MD. CM. Nurushev.
Since the inception of the department, researchers conducted research in the republic on the following issues: organization of the fight against syphilis and gonorrhea; study of the flora of dermatomycoses and their control; new methods of treatment of skin and venereal diseases.
Since 2002 to the present time the chair is headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Nurusheva Sofya Mukhitovna.
Under her leadership, six candidate and two doctoral dissertations are defended, currently he is the supervisor of 2 doctoral and 2 candidate dissertations. He has the “Excellent Health” award, the breastplate “Altyn dyryder”. He is the deputy chairman of the Dissertation Council NIKVI MH RK, a member of the attestation commission for awarding the first and higher medical category, the problem commission, the central methodological commission. He is the tutor of the young teachers of the department. The author of more than 120 scientific works, including manuals, recommendations, patents and inventions. Maldybaeva NM made a great contribution to the training of future doctors and interns. – doctor of the highest category, “Excellent Health”, has an award. The medal “Veteran of Labor” began her career in 1977, she is the author of 65 publications, textbooks for students and methodical aids in Kazakh and Russian.
Research work continues in the spirit of the traditions accumulated by the department for 83 years. The scientific potential of the department is developing every year. Since 2002, the PPS department has been protected: 1 doctoral thesis, 2 candidate dissertations, 3 doctoral dissertations, 3 candidate dissertations on topical problems of dermatovenerology
The scientific and student’s circle is actively working at the department. The winners of the conference dedicated to the problems of AIDS were students of the 4th year of the curative faculty of 2008, a student of the 6th year of the medical faculty in 2010. The interns of 2005-2006 became the participants and prize-winners of the contest “The best graduate of the year” in the last 5 years. Together with the teachers published about 20 papers on the results of research work of students in the leading periodical medical publications of the Republic. The students of the circle take an active part in the preventive work of basic dermatovenereologic treatment facilities: preventive examinations, questioning of senior pupils and students of the colleges in the Almaty region.
The department actively conducts educational work in the spirit of increasing the value orientation, patriotism, image of the university, following the message of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan “New Kazakhstan in the New World”. Employees of the department, being curators of students of medical and pediatric faculties, jointly solve pressing problems, raise the cultural, moral, spiritual level of the modern student of the medical university, provide assistance to orphanages, boarding schools, palliative care center, cultivate a sense of patriotism, conduct healthy lifestyles among students. Actively participated in the round table “I fight corruption and protect the rights of students”, and in the action “Psychodiagnostic testing of first-year students with the purpose of determining the professional orientation.”

They regularly participate in scientific and practical conferences of international and republican levels, conduct preventive work among the population of the Almaty region on the prevention of atopic dermatitis, fungal skin diseases, and infectious-parasitic skin diseases.
